Is it a hotel or is it a residence ?
Both of it! The RESIDENCE DE FRANCE includes a 4 stars Hotel and a Residence with 37 studios and flats.
It's an important point. We do not want you being disapointed if you chose the Residence because of the better price and dislike it because you were expecting a 4 star hotel. Both are find, but different. There are in two different buildings, but share exactly the same services and outer spaces : the lounge, the bar, the pool, the garden, the reception etc.
The Hotel is more comfortable than the Residence. But you will find in the Residence some studios (for 2 people) and Appartments (for 3 or 4 people). They have little kitchens and are very usable.
There are no extras to be afraid of. Daily cleaning, sheets, television, direct telephone, welcome gifts are included.
The price depends on the season. You shoul pay 90 € to 180 € in the Residence, and 130 € to 420 € in the hotel. The units are different but offer good value for money.
The Hotel is located in a classic 16th Century building, typical of La Rochelle. And the Residence is in a 6 floor modern building of the 50's, with a great view on the countryside and the sea on floors 5 and 6.
But the staff is the same and is very professional and nice.

How big are the rooms?
The hotel has very big rooms, starting at 25 m² (80 sq²) and up to 40 m² to 100 m² (130 sq² to 330 sq²) for the biggest Suite (President Suite : 2 rooms with 2 bathrooms, big lounge and guest bathroom).
What services shall I find ?
The RESIDENCE DE FRANCE displays high standart services : onboard staff day and night, bar with food available from 1pm to 11 pm, heated pool, garden, inside courtyard, generous hiot and cold breakfast buffet, french and foreign newspapers, library, fireplace in the lounge on evening, free Wi-Fi, computers, place to leave your luggage, private parking outside and underground. It's a nice play to enjoy.
How much is the breakfast ?
The breakfast costs 15 € per person, but is offered for your kids up to 17 years old. It is a buffet breakfast.
You will find every day :
- different sorts of french bread and viennoiseries (croissants)
- cakes
- dried fruits : prickly pears, apricots, grapes, prunes
- dairy products and stewed fruits : yoghurts, fruit yoghurts and live yoghurts
- cheese : Kiri or Vache qui rit, Emmenthal
- cooked meats : boiled and raw ham, rosette, chorizo
- jam both in individual and big pots (at least 4 kind)
- butter and salted butter
- Nutella (we're fond of it!)
- coffee (large or expresso, as you like it the best)
- tea (nature, english breakfast, bergamote, darjeeling, red fruit, blue fruit, green tea, lemon)
- milk chocolate, hot and cold milk
- herbal tea
- cold and tempered water
- fruit juice : orange, grapefruit, pineapple, apple
- breakfats cereal : Muesli, Chocapic, Corn-Flakes
- hot buffet including scrambled eggs, fried eggs, bacon and sausages
- homemade fruit salad, and fruits
The breakfast is open from 7am to 11 am. According to you and asking the reception, you can have a continental breakfast served in your room before 7 o'clock.
Kids up to 17 years old traveling with you do not pay the breakfast.
If you are staying in the hotel, you can ask for breakfast served in your room. The pice stays the same.
And there are many cafés in town serving breakfast, for about 6,5 €. There are more basic breakfast than our, but good quality altough.
Do you have AC ?
Unfortunately we do not hace AC, but high temp days are not very often because of the seawind
Are there non-smoking rooms ?
Yes, both Hotel and residence offer strictly non smoking rooms. Ask for it when you book you room or your appartment.
At what time can I order food ?
Fooding is available at the bar or with the room service. The bar is open daily from 1pm to 23pm. Do you wish to eat a fillet of duck breast or a Moroccan stew at 4pm or at midnight ? No problem !
The room service is available from 1pm to 4am.
Is the pool open all day long ?
The pool opens every day at 10 am and closes one hour before nightime. It's a heated pool (28C°-82 F°), usable all year long. As it is a small swimming pool (7 meters long, 4 meters large - 23 feet long per 13 feet large) and shallow (3 feet depth), you won't be able to dive or to train for crossing the channel. It's a fun pool. There is no lifeguard. The kids are admitted only with their parents.
You will find deck chairs and pool towels.
There is no allowed access to the pool at night, for security and noise reasons.
During winter months (November to February) or very bad weather period, the pool might be closed for servicing. This information can be given by phone before your arrival.
We have kids
The RESIDENCE DE FRANCE is convenient for families traveling together, because of the numerous Suites (fitting 4 to 6 persons). If you prefer the Residence, the Appartments provide very good accomodation for 3 to 4 persons. Because of the kitchen, you'll be able to live just like at home.
The breakfast is free for kids up to 17 traveling with you.
We do have also childcare items, that we will lend you, such as highchairs, cots, drawing corner in the lounge, games for playing indoors, dvd players, "approved" baby-sitters.
The place is well secured. The railing is kept closed so everyone is seen by the reception, coming in or coming out to rue du Minage.
Can we plan a meeting or a wedding ?
Yes sure, the RESIDENCE DE FRANCE is specially adapted to welcome events. We made 100 of them in 2010. Either for partying after a wedding or a birthday, a baptem, a barmitzvah, or getting together the people you work with, the RESIDENCE DE FRANCE is the good play to choose. It has the standing, it has the unique location, and it has the parking.
We have 3 meeting rooms and in low occupancy period we can privatize the lounge and welcome up to 200 people.

What about the internet?
You will be able to connect on the internet very easily. Both Hotel and Residence were amongst the first in France to provide free wi-fi to its guests, since 2002. It is a totally free and no limit connexion. You can reach it using a laptop or a smartphone.
You don't have any computer with you ? We have a web corner with two PC's, and a laptop we can lend you with no charge.
Where shall I park my car ?
Our underground parking can be used by 27 cars at the same time, and many cars can be let in the courtyard (even if we prefer the underground option). The price for this is 10 € per day.
A public parking exists on the Place de Verdun, approximativly at 100 m (300 yards) from the hotel. The price is 8,6 € per day and 6 € per extra day.
Is the place well located ?
The RESIDENCE DE FRANCE is right in the center of the historical town, in an arcade street. It is also the shopping place of La Rochelle. The Old Harbor (vieux port), very well knowned and great entertainment place (bars, restaurants, concert hall) is 10 minutes walk close. Except for going to the beaches at Ile de Ré, you probably won't need to take your car. This fantastic location will make your stay great !
