Are you a hotel or a residence?
Both! RESIDENCE DE FRANCE is comprised of 11 suites and 5 rooms with 5-star classification, and 38 apartments and studios with Aparthotel classification.
We do our best to make a clear distinction between the two so that you’re not caught off-guard upon arrival – having booked a Residence when you intended for a Hotel, or vice versa.
The Hotels and Residences are in two different buildings, but share the same services and luxury spaces on the ground floor: the main hall, bar, pool, garden and reception desk.
If you’re looking for comfort, opt for a Hotel in lieu of a Residence. Still, the Residence’s Studios (for two people) or Apartments (for 3 or 4 people) are highly enjoyable, each offering a fully equipped kitchenette.
Contrary to what happens at some establishments, we won’t surprise you with any supplementary rates at the Residence: daily housekeeping – with a change of towels and linens – is included, and you’ll have access to a television, direct telephone line and hospitality products.
Prices vary depending on the season. They range from €90 to €180 in the Residence and from €130 to €420 in the hotel. While the services differ, both offer a great quality-for-price value. The Hotel is situated in a historical building (16th century), while the Residence can be found in a modern building from the 1970s. The latter has 6 floors and offers a stunning view from the upper floors.
Whether you decide to stay at the Hotel or the Residence, our professional and attentive staff is here to accommodate you.
What size are the rooms? Are they big?
The Hotel boasts sizeable rooms: our smallest room is 25 m² (269 square feet) (bathroom included) and our Suites range from 40 m² to 100 m² (430 to 1076 square feet) (Presidential Suite: a duplex with two bedrooms, two independent bathrooms, a large living room area and a guest bathroom).
What services are available at the hotel?
LA RESIDENCE DE FRANCE offers all the services of a high end hotel: staff available day and night, bar service from 1 pm to 11 pm with dining options available, heated pool, garden, courtyard, copious hot and cold breakfast buffet, daily French and foreign press, weekly and monthly press available, library, wood fireplace in the main hall in the evening, free Wifi, self-service computers, baggage hold, private underground and street parking. What a great place to be!
How much is breakfast?
Our buffet-style breakfast is €15 per person (except for children under 17, who eat for free), and set in an elegant room. Table linen and cutlery are at your disposal.
Every day, we offer:
-bread and pastries: sliced bread and brioche, “lichette” bread (small baguettes), multigrain bread, croissants, pains aux chocolat (in the Southwest, we call them “chocolatines”), pains aux raisins (Danish pastry)
-patisseries: “opera,” “financier”, etc
-dried fruit: figs, apricots, raisins, prunes
-dairy products and fruit compotes: natural, fruit-flavoured or active bifidus yogurts
-cheese: spreadable cheeses (Kiri or Laughing Cow) and Emmental
-charcuterie: cooked or smoked ham, salami, rosette, chorizo
-jams in individual jars (at least 4 flavours) and in large jars
-sweet and salted butters (1/2 salt)
-Nutella (for sweet tooths!)
-coffee (choice of filtered or espresso)
-tea (black, English breakfast, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, summer berries, natural or lemon flavoured green tea)
-hot chocolate, hot or cold milk
-cold and room temperature water
-fruit juice: orange, grapefruit, pineapple, apple
-cereal: muesli, Chocapic, Corn Flakes
-hot buffet, including scrambled or fried eggs, bacon and sausage
-homemade fruit salad and fresh seasonal fruit
Breakfast is served everyday from 7 to 11am (let us know the night before if you would like breakfast served to your room before 7am).
Breakfast is free for children under 17.
If you’re staying at the hotel, you can also order your breakfast to you room. This is a continental breakfast with a fixed price.
Otherwise, there are a number of cafes in town that offer continental breakfasts for around €6.50. These breakfasts are good quality, but more simple than what we offer.
Is the hotel air-conditioned?
Our rooms are not air-conditioned but extremely hot days are rare at La Rochelle.
Are there non-smoking rooms?
Yes, the Hotel and Residence offer non-smoking rooms. Make sure to request a non-smoking room during your reservation.
When is the restaurant open?
Food is only served at the bar or in the rooms when using our room service. The bar is open every day nonstop, from 1 to 11pm. Hungry for duck filet or a tajine at 4 in the afternoon or at midnight? No problem!
Room service operates from 1pm to 4am.
When is the pool open?
The pool is open every day at 10am and closes at 9pm. It is heated to 28°C all year round. As the pool is only 22 feet long by 13 feet wide, and shallow in depth (3 feet), diving and laps are not permitted. There is no lifeguard on duty (children must be accompanied by an adult). Lounge chairs and towels are available to our guests.
Entrance to the pool is forbidden outside of regular opening hours, and the pool is protected by an alarm.
During the winter months (November, December, January) or during bad weather, the pool may be closed for several days to allow for draining and maintenance. You can find this information at the hotel reception desk.
We’re coming with children. How can you accommodate us?
LA RESIDENCE DE FRANCE is particularly well adapted to the needs of families, thanks to the large number of Suites available at the hotel (maximum capacity of 4 to 6 people).
If you prefer to stay at the Residence, the Apartments offer quality accommodation for 3 to four people. With the built-in kitchenette, you’ll be able to prepare meals just like at home.
Our breakfast is free for children under age 17. Children also eat for free at the restaurant (limited to one meal per day and under the restriction that one paying adult equals one free children’s meal).
We also have baby equipment on hand if necessary (highchairs, cribs, changing tables, colouring area in the living room), board games, DVD players for rent, and a network of babysitters well known by hotel staff.
The whole establishment is well secured. The front gate for cars is closed at all times, and comings and goings are monitored by the reception desk, which is situated at the pedestrian entrance on rue du Minage.
I have trouble getting around. Is the hotel adapted for persons of reduced mobility?
Our hotel has been built to accommodate those with reduced mobility. We have several rooms, suites and apartments that are specially designed to simplify your stay. In addition, you can easily move around the hotel without needing to use the steps – all floors can be accessed by elevator, as well as by wheelchair (we can also loan you a wheelchair if necessary), as can the car park, breakfast room and bar. Special equipment is also available, such as telephones with a large keypad or amplified sound. There is always at least one person at the reception desk at all times, in case of special requests. Our staff has been trained to help those with reduced mobility (especially going from the seated to standing position), if needed.
Do you accept groups?
Yes, LA RESIDENCE DE FRANCE is especially accommodating to groups. We usually receive around 200 per year. LA RESIDENCE DE FRANCE is a privileged spot due to its standards of excellence, location and parking facilities. It’s ideal for celebrating weddings, birthdays and baptisms, or for those here for professional reasons – whether it be for a work meeting between colleagues or a two-day seminar to sell your products to local venders. There are three meeting rooms, and the large hall can be reserved for groups of up to 200 people. We have specially trained staff members in this domain, who will help you see your event from beginning to end and will remain available throughout your event, if desired. Do you have internet access?
Yes, of course. Our hotel was one of the first in France to offer free Wifi to its guests. All of our rooms at the Hotel and the Residence have been equipped with it since 2002. Access is free, and without time limits. It is also available on smartphones.
Are you travelling without a computer? We have an internet area with two self-service computers available.
Can I park my car at the hotel?
Our underground car park holds up to 27 vehicles, and our arrivals area can accommodate several cars (although we prefer that you use the car park). Parking at the hotel is 10 € per day. Public parking is also available at Place de Verdun (less than 350 feet from the hotel). You can park there for €8.60 per day (€6 for each additional day).
Is the hotel well situated in town?
LA RESIDENCE DE FRANCE is located on an arcade at the heart of La Rochelle, within the town’s historical district. The neighborhood is also a lively business district. The emblematic Vieux Port (old port) is great for visitors, with a host of bars, restaurants and performance halls. It can be reached within 10 minutes by foot. You probably won’t need to use your car, unless you plan on taking a trip to Ile de Ré or Rochefort. The location of our establishment is a definite plus.
And what about the surrounding area?
We are a major socioeconomic player, and thus we feel responsible not only socially but environmentally as well. We’re always looking for ways to minimize pollution and our consumption of energy. Our staff works to recycle waste products, and save water and energy.
We only use electricity to heat the hotel rooms.
Halogen lighting sources have been progressively replaced by discharge and fluorescent lamps. We also encourage guests to not change towels after just one use. Towels that are clean and dry will be folded for re-use. Towels that have been left in the sink or bathtub are systematically changed. It’s up to you to decide what to do.
